We are launching a social movement to educate people about nuclear weapons and how they can be eliminated. We believe there is a significant gap in the education of most people which puts the world at risk. Our US Leadership for a Nuclear Weapons-Free World is anl educational campaign which aims to collect one million signatures and present them to the new President on Inauguration Day in January 2009. The text of the Appeal sets out seven steps that would make the world safer. Each step would reduce the threat from nuclear weapons and so will educate the reader on how nuclear disarmament can proceed.

We work for a world free of nuclear weapons, to strengthen international law and to inspire new peace leaders.

We believe people of conscience must take action now. To remain silent is to approve the status quo, which is likely to lead to further nuclear weapons proliferation with a high possibility of nuclear weapons use. The time has come for the United States to take leadership to build consensus with other nations to solve the 21st century’s most immediate threat.

As an educational charity, we don’t back candidates nor are we partisan. But the elimination of nuclear weapons is not a partisan issue. It’s everyone’s issue; an issue which touches on one of the most profound challenges of this century – global governance. Nuclear weapons not only pose the most immediate catastrophic threat to humanity, they also present a remarkable opportunity for the United States to create a new paradigm with other nations. We seek to demonstrate that difficult global issues can be addressed and resolved peacefully and that working for the common good is not merely virtuous, it is a practical strategy for survival.

We believe it’s time to dissolve the myth of inevitability around nuclear weapons. Education is the key. Our new Appeal – and our new DVD --present seven straight-forward steps that will make our lives more secure and the world more peaceful.
