The Ecology Action Centre prides itself on being Nova Scotia’s oldest and most active environmental organization. We work on a range of projects from coastal habitat restoration to helping more kids walk to school. In this spirit of education and action we run the Steer Clean Vehicle Scrappage Program.

The goal of the Steer Clean Program is to remove some of the older – 1995-and-older - vehicles from Nova Scotia’s roads as they produce significantly higher health-impacting emissions than newer cars.

Older, poorly maintained vehicles contribute up to 35% of the emissions that are involved in smog formation and up to 18.5% of Canada's total greenhouse gas emissions. Between 10 to 15% of Canada's fleet are older - pre-1995 - or poorly maintained vehicles that generate up to 50% of these smog-forming emissions. If you have one of these cars why not consider turning it in for a healthier transportation alternative?
