Trek4Good is a volunteer program of The Mountain Fund. This program was started in order to address the need of volunteers to both see the country of Nepal, and to also contribute their time. By hosting volunteer visits that are close to the people and the cultures of the country, we help to prepare them to be more effective volunteers with a deeper understanding of the issues. Every Trek4Good trip either has a volunteer component built in, or is organized to raise funds for a particular project we support. It is another way that we can support our community-based partners around the world and educate more people through direct, personal experiences. Description: Not far from Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley, Mountain Fund partner Reach Out Children's Fund has been key in improving education and educational facilities to the 250 student attending the Huilloc school. Recently, we were informed of the dire medical needs of these children. In July 2008, Mountain Fund will host a trip to Peru to offer medical care and assistance to these children. The 16 day trip will include a tour of the Inca sites, including Machu Picchu. Skills: While we welcome any interested individual to contact us regarding our volunteer opportunities, special consideration will be given to the medical background of the applicant, including their level of education, medical specialty, and experience. Preference will be given to individuals with one or more of the following backgrounds: General Medicine/Family Medicine, Pediatrics, Travel Health, Internal Medicine, Ob-gyn, Nurse, Midwife, Orthopedics, Emergency Medicine, Optometry, Audiology, Nutrition Nurses, EMTs, Paramedics, and other medical workers are also encouraged to apply. Additional relevant experience will also be weighed during the selection process.
