I have provided some information about an upcoming event that is very important to me. It is a demonstration that will coincide with the UN Climate Talks. There will be thousands (if not more) worldwide who will be demonstrating so that our leaders take climate change seriously. If enough of us come and support this cause we may be able to make a difference. Please, lend me your support by coming to this event. Please, forward this to as many people as possible. Full details are bellow.

Thank you,

Dan Rose

Rallies are currently planned in 80 countries, for details, including contact information, visit:

MONTREAL RALLY INFORMATION

BEYOND KYOTO : Kyoto is not enough

Demonstration to Coincide with the UN Climate Talks in Bali Indonesia

WHEN: Saturday 8th December, 2 30 pm WHERE: Montreal – Dorchester Square : Peel/Rene Levesque (Metro Peel)

The march will be followed by a silent vigil: bring a candle or lamp From December 3rd to 14th, 190 countries will meet in Bali , Indonesia for the UN Convention on Climate Change. So far the debate on climate change has been narrowly focused on Kyoto, a set of climate change solutions that are not enough to end our dependence on fossil fuels and that are based on a free market-based approach to the climate crisis.

The Canadian government has declared even the Kyoto targets unachievable. Even worse, the government is investing in the Alberta tar sands project which represents the largest increase in carbon emissions. The project will destroy enormous water catchments and the largest boreal delta in the world. It will have detrimental impacts on First Nations Dene and Cree communities in the region.

On December 8, we will take to the streets in solidarity with thousands worldwide confronting the climate crisis, to demand that the government take real action to reduce Canada’s contribution to Greenhouse Gas emissions. Industrialized countries like Canada that emit the most greenhouse gases must take most of the responsibility for the current climate crisis!

Although government support is certainly important I think here in America it is the people of the nation who need to take it seriously. I live in Southern California were there is one gas guzzling SUV for every 3 cars and of those cars maybe 5% are hybrids or remotely fuel efficient. I think change needs to be everyone’s responsibility not just the governments. But that is not to say that this demonstration is not important!!!!! I would go if I could…..but for those of us who are concerned I think we should make it our focus to educate our friends families and neighbors and model eco-logical behavior everyday.

Agreed. I am hopeful that there will be a big enough turnout worldwide that even the gas guzzlers will pause for a moment to consider the consequences of their actions.

I looked for a similar event being held in southern California but unfortunately there is none. Hmmm… why don’t you organize one? I know you only have 6 days but it would be great for your state to be represented!

Stand up for something, be counted, and together we can make a difference!
