A society needs to have a strong foundation, freedom must be one of the cornerstones – America has been so good on freedom and a world leader in this area, its time to stop the rot setting in.

There’s something wrong with the sort of thinking that says the way to protect the “American way of life” is to do away with the very freedoms and protections that ARE the American way of life.

It’s scary the amount of cognitive dissonance involved in pro-security arguments. I’m in the UK, where it’s much the same except with a unwritten constitution it’s easier to effect change, both positive and negative. Oh, and I’m writing my undergraduate dissertation on Magna Carta; most of what we’re told about it is bollocks, frankly.
