The basics -
1 - I'm an anarchist and independent hip hop artist / MC / bard / storyteller.
"Anarchist," in case you're out of the loop, doesn't mean "enjoys mindless anti-social behavior and random destruction" but instead refers to an individual such as myself who advocates a horizontally organized (non-hierarchal) and egalitarian political and economic system.
On an unrelated but still relevant note, I recently graduated with a BA in political science and somewhere along the way picked up a tendency to write using < much more formal language then I use in real life. As Pharoh Monch once put it, I'm "half street half academic". Keeps life interesting at least.
2 - My Band, Beltaine's Fire, kicks ass. you need to go check us out. now. seriously.
3 - When I'm not on stage I'm usually working on promotions for the band, hustling to pay the rent, or on a picket line somewhere. In between I write a regular blog on politics, current events, hip hop music, and pretty much whatever else i feel like writing on.
4 - I'm also featured in a new documentary called "Stirring it Up: The New Dissenters". the doc was shot between 2000 and 2003 and has interviews and video clips with me and 4 other 'activists' from different parts of the political spectrum, beginning with the protests against the republican and democratic national conventions.
A few great quotes:
The reason they call it the American Dream is because you have to be asleep to believe it.
- George Carlin
Civil disobedience, that’s not our problem. Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That's our problem.
~ Howard Zinn
Disobedience, in the eyes of anyone who has read history, is man's original virtue. It is through disobedience that progress has been made, through disobedience and through rebellion.
~ Oscar Wilde
Disobedience is the true foundation of liberty. The obedient must be slaves.
~ Henry David Thoreau
The most detestable wickedness, the most horrid cruelties, and the greatest miseries that have afflicted the human race have had their origin in this thing called revelation, or revealed religion.
~ Thomas Paine
A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death.
~ Albert Einstein
I like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ.
~ Mohandas Gandhi
A casual stroll through the lunatic asylum shows that faith does not prove anything.
~ Nietzsche
Religion is what keeps the poor from murdering the rich.
~ Napoleon
Men will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.
~ Denis Diderot
