I like conversation when it flows without self-consciousness or boundaries, I like graphic design and painting and working with my friends on local activist projects. Also I like house shows, bicycling, reading and partying down. I want to visit other towns and see what kind of local struggles are going on. I like to read about historical people's movements.
I think that me and many of my friends were raised to think in ways that promote domination and hierarchy. These ways of thinking torment us internally and they guide us to support and uphold authoritarian power.
An example of authoritarian logic from my own life: I couldn't concentrate in school because I was lazy or had "a.d.d." and so drugs and discipline were needed for me to "fit" into the structure of the U.S. school system. Another way of looking at the same problem: Because I was rebelling against the one-size-fits-all model of education and I was exploring education in ways that my schools/society could not facilitate, I was the victim of a campaign to re-make me into a specific social mold.
Every so often, I uncover another one of these little threads of authoritarian logic in my own brain and learn how to replace it with a loving, helpful logic. I am addicted to these moments.
