More At Stake than the Gold

More At Stake Than The Gold

There are two words we have all heard a lot of over the past few days: Olympics and Protestors. Whether your co-workers are discussing it at the water cooler, or it’s the first thing you hear on the news in the morning or it’s the last thing you see on TV before you tuck yourself into bed, the topic of the 2008 Beijing Olympics torch run is as hot as the flame it holds.

So, what’s all the hype around this particular summer Olympic games? I’m almost certain most people already know the answer to that. ...

ipod Nation

I was watching some people on the bus the other day and noticed that nobody was talking to anyone else. This is the same scene that I see every day while taking public transportation, but I was more observant that day about my fellow passengers, having left the book that I had intended to read at home on the kitchen table. More than half of the passengers had some personal data device to occupy their attention. Two people had cell phones, one had a gaming device, and twelve people were enveloped in the bubble of sound created by their ipods.&nbs...

This Election is Brought To You By the Letter “O”

With just a little over eight months remaining before we crown our nation’s new leader, the media is having a heyday over one letter. The “O Factor” is simply summed up with two very familiar and very powerful brands – The Obama and The Oprah.

We all witnessed some part of the phenomenon that is Oprah’s ability to grab a crowd about a month ago when she publicly announced she thought Mr. Obama “should be our next President of the United States.”

The media honestly attempted to downplay this at the obvious risk of American people v...

Superbowl Advertisements Pricetag Could Feed Small Country

The average cost of an ad to air during the Super Bowl was a hefty $2.7 million for the short-lived 30 seconds of glory.
But, how glorious was it?

What makes me laugh even harder than the price of these advertisements is the fact that Super Bowl commercials are not THAT funny. I hate to say it...but for almost $3 million a pop I expect more.

Let’s start with the award-winner of the evening. Apparently baby vomit really gets us rolling. The E-Trade advertisement with the baby talking stock deals who throws up at the end came in as the number one re-played commercia...

Hollywood – A National Phenomenon

Welcome to Hollywood. What’s your dream?

As a “nobody” in the spotlight-driven world that is Hollywood today, I hereby put a disclaimer on the cluster of words to follow.

Said disclaimer: I do not know Hollywood first-hand. As in, I’ve never lived it the way famous people do – but then again, I would venture to guess that 99.9 percent of the people who will read this don’t know it that way either, so my audience is fitting. (Put the .1 percent there in case a G-listed actor reads this. A girl can dream.) I digress.

After a recent trip to Los An...

As always, if you’re interested in volunteering, get in touch. We need people who can:
- graphic design
- research, blog, and write
- web design
- do some mindless data entry (if you’re in the mood for some tedium, but we try to keep it to a minimum!)
- develop website content
- translate (English – French)
- help out at events (hand out surveys, talk up Apathy, take pictures, sell gear) and a plethora of other things.

The Millennial’s - Generation Y Not?

An astonishing 75 million people, or 20 percent of today’s population, make up the age group of U.S. citizens born between the years 1977 and 1994. The largest generation since the infamous baby-boomers, Generation Y is asking one question as they hone their dreams in life – “why not?”

This generation uses Wikipedia instead of encyclopedia, email instead of snail mail and mp3’s instead of 33’s. It’s all about convenience, new technology and easy access with this generation and it shows in the way they live, work and play.

According to a recent study done...
