Cuban Relations

In January of 1959, Fidel Castro
was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Cuba after leading a revolution against
the United States
backed Dictator Fulgencio Batista. Castro quickly established a one party
socialist style economy in Cuba.
Next, he sought to build international relations with powerful countries in
order to improve Cuba.
Castro first turned to United States
for assistance but the United States
rejected any relations because of the paranoia fear of Communism in the United
 States. Cuba
then looked to the United States
greatest rival at the time, the Soviet Union.<...

In this modern era, our lives revolve around newer and newer technology. With the development of newer technology the things that we use everyday to carry out the functions of our daily lives now required more sources energy than ever before. That gas powered snow blower used to clear driveways in the winter replaced that hand powered shovel in the corner of the garage.

The biggest problem that comes from using these modern devices is the energy consumption of it. There is only a limited amount of resources available on the earth that can provide energy. One of the biggest prod...

There is a lot of online buzz around the 2008 U.S. Presidential campaign, but I can’t help but wonder if any of this will actually translate into political action at the polls? Are Ron Paul and Barack Obama the Howard Deans of 2008?

I wrote a Wikinomics blog post a couple of weeks ago about this and thought some of the Rethos members might be interetsed. If you are, check out the link below (should link straight to the post).

New comment! - What are Biofuels all about

In Colombia the production of oil palm for biofuels is beginning to have an impact on tropical forest, since the producers are mostly interested in what price they will receive from buyers (USA). The massive planting of African oil palm is now reducing biodiversity in Colombia, one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. Producers are interested in a return on their investment, not in whether the use of biofuels reduces oil production.

On paper it sounds good. In actuality, the growers will fell more and more forest to grow the crops.

New comment! - Parking spaces become temporary parks

I live in Northern Palm Beach County, Florida, and West Palm Beach participated in PARK day and people were amazed by how their moods were immediately altered by the prospect of sitting on a swath of green in the otherwise dingy downtown area. It’s a great spirit lifter!

Wow,
A roommate of a very deep friend was one of the people who started this “Park” idea. He may even be the guy who started the whole thing. I don’t know. What I do know is that I am near overwhelmed that I within 2 degrees of separation, here is such an amazing example of a great idea going for it. Consciousness- WOW!
