Carbon-Free Does NOT Require Nuclear

If this was true I'd be all for ignoring the many health risks (including intentional and unintentional explosion) and centralization aspect for the sake of the climate.

But, I discovered from talking to some folks at the Sustainable Energy Summit at Amherst, that it certainly is not true. And this article explains how we can reach a carbon-free and nuclear-free society in scientific yet understandable terms.

Rural Sierra Leonean Library Goes Solar

By Mackay Taggart with files from Joseph B. Bangura

The modern library goes beyond simply books and bookcases. It has
become, thanks to the proliferation of the internet and electronic
media, a way to connect and interact with the world at large.

Unfortunately the Makeni City Library is not yet a modern library,
for it, like most buildings in the city, has no access to electricity.
However, a private donation, a hot Saturday morning and a sheet of
solar panels the size a beach towel is about to change that.

Following the food chain back to Iraq
BY Richard Manning
PUBLISHED February 2004

The secret of great wealth with no obvious source is some forgotten crime, forgotten because it was done neatly.—Balzac

The journalist’s rule says: follow the money. This rule, however, is not really axiomatic but derivative, in that money, as even our vice president will tell you, is really a way of tracking energy. We’ll follow the energy.

Solar Power Plants

In this modern era, our lives revolve around newer and newer technology. With the development of newer technology the things that we use everyday to carry out the functions of our daily lives now required more sources energy than ever before. That gas powered snow blower used to clear driveways in the winter replaced that hand powered shovel in the corner of the garage.

The biggest problem that comes from using these modern devices is the energy consumption of it. There is only a limited amount of resources available on the earth that can provide energy. One of the biggest prod...

Seriously, I work on what I believe in, and the private sector is so powerful today – working to move companies toward sustainability is a key challenge of our time. I also agree wholeheartedly with Philip about the concept behind DragonTHINK – if companies are motivated by their stakeholders, then we as stakeholders (consumers, investors, voters, etc) have a responsibility to steer them straight. I’m working on a book with this theme now, and any thoughts from the awesome Rethos communi...

New comment! - Global Capitalism: The Solution to World Oppression and Poverty By Andrew Bernstein

This essay is sound, well-written, and rational, but leaves out important perspectives. Capitalism is not freedom, for it thrives on an oppressed underclass, and profit depends on unpaid labor. By definition, it feeds off of domination, and for the last five centuries, has created vast inequalities across the globe.

The alternatives facing humans at this critical juncture in history are not merely black/white, free/oppressed, capitalism/tyranny. Contrast the narrow definition of freedom supplied by capitalism-<del>the freedom to choose between cereal brands at the grocery store...

my thoughts on his recommendation would have to be further developed by learning more about gore and what he preaches and his contrary actions but so far i think it gets you to think and motivated regardless of what you believe which is pretty dope…

That is just sick. I consider myself fairly well knowledgeable about the “behind-the-scenes” stuff that goes on in various industries, but had no idea about the wool trade.

Animals were not meant to be industrialized!

Why do we not know about this crap? (I know the obvious answer but am still upset about it)

Thanks for the informative vid

New comment - Why You Shouldn't Wear Wool

That’s the thing. Like Nour mentioned, it was news for her. Wool farming seems like it would be harmless, after all, it’s not skin, or flesh, it’s excess hair. But it is cruel, and the majority of people wearing wool sweaters or socks right now have no idea what they have paid for.

That is one economic crisis that could save the planet. We’d get up again. I hate the thought of weaning out cruelty instead of eliminating it so that life doesn’t get any rougher on us poor humans. We can deal.

I don’t think that America needs to be weaned off of it’s Micky D’s diet any more than I think Veal calves need to be weaned off of their chains. For those of you who haven’t heard, the AVA (American Veal Industry) has announced that they are phasing out chaining calves by their necks by 2017.

Dimos,
Do you think there is a conflict of interest then? Do you think that because Gore makes money off of global warming, then perhaps he has an interest to conceal the whole truth from his audience? And is that ethical?

Dimos,

Good points. But I think Abe needs to be criticized for having slaves just as Gore needs to be criticized for eating meat. All I’m saying is that the spokeman for global climate change, should live as he preaches. That is the most effective way to influence people to change, prove to them that they can do it too. And America doesn’t even have to completely stop eating meat. If we even reduced our consumption by 1/10th, we would make a huge impact on the environment. Plus, we would create new industries and help struggling ones.

Good points though
