Is there a “Good Samaritan” clause in the Hummer sales contract that requires purchasers to render aid in the event they find themselves within a certain proximity of a disaster? Or are we to just count on the big hearts of those who leave a yearly carbon footprint the size of Montana when chips are down?

there’s a bike library program run entirely by volunteers in Minneapolis called the Yellow Bike Library. they’ve been going for the better part of a decade. you pay a anual fee ($15) and then you can check out a yellow bike for up to a week at a time whenever you need one. pick it up at any yellow bike hub, drop it off at any other. it’s great! and no corporate involvement needed.

Harrison Ford and John Travolta make use of their pilot’s licenses to rescue stranded hikers etc. The positive PR probably lessens the guilt of flying for fun. Who among us doesn’t have some vice, large or small, that we try to justify in some way? I like to have an adult beverage on a regular basis. I am all in favor of a healthy debate about gun control but how did this discussion end up on this post which is a cute essay about secession of the blue states and not at all about gun control? I mean, its ok by me, it just seems a bit of a non-sequitur.

I agree that, as an instrument of violence, guns are the cause of much pain and suffering. However, I think that the only true gun control can come from a non-coercive re-evaluation of the individualâ€™s relationship to the community and the communityâ€™s relationship to the governing power. In other words, so long as the state has instruments of violence, the people need them tooâ€¦even though there a plenty of idiots who abuse this â€œpolitical rightâ€.

I am not an expert in this area but isn’t it true that the vast majority of human contracted antibiotic resistant bacterial infections are from MRSA infections (methicillan resistant staphylococcus aureas) and that this is due to the over prescription of antibiotics to treat viral infections in humans (for which antibiotics have no effect). I call it greenwashing only because there is that room for confusion. There is absolutely no identification of the ionophore by name. They give the name. I will do the research attempting to find a valid study that verifies their claim.

This is an interesting case study in the cross-over between public relations and corporate social responsibility. After reading the article, from my understanding Tyson is using a new for a chemical that kills the microbes in chicken stomachs, but does not affect the antibodies in human beings (through some study not mentioned, but likely approved by the USDA).

They have they conveyed this to the consumer through messaging: â€œChicken Raised Without Antibiotics that impact antibiotic resistance in humans.â€Â

Depending on your age and geography, hunger, disease, or violence as a consequence of social disintegration are much more likely candidates. “If leaders like this …” I would say distinguish between representatives (eg elected folks) and leaders (people who lead). Radical leadership (ie not within the standard frame of reference) always comes from the grassroots and never from the top (think gandhi, King etc … people who go in whole new directions). If you are waiting for those ‘at the top’ to lead you will die of old age. Leadership is needed, and it is up to each of us to start providing it.

Senator Inhofe was the Environment and Public Works Committee. He has been around for a while so I think that he has a certain level of seniority. He should have a clue as to what is happening. This email was recent, within the week. WTF?

The first thing I noticed was that he opened the letter saying he has a family of 16 and he wants to avoid any real change for their security. He isn’t going to want change since it might affect his children.

You are right that corporations are tip-toeing their way into absolute transparency and that social responsibility is a flexible term and a young concept. It is an ideal that is not being full met very from those that are considered CSR leaders.

I feel that rather than squashing this ideal before it can grow, it should encouraged and at the same time raised as a point for discussion and debate between consumers and the companies that they support or donâ€™t support.

for-profit corporations are LEGALLY REQUIRED to place their bottom line and the profits of their shareholders ahead of all other considerations. as far as i’m concerned, “socially responsible” corporations are like gods and invisible pink unicorns – it’s impossible to prove they don’t exist somewhere out there in the cosmos, but I’ve certainly never encountered one and I don’t think it’s very likely that I ever will.

In the new year, our organisation, Public Achievement are moving into new offices in Belfast’s City Centre – actually in the new ‘Cathedral Arts Quarter’ up-and-coming funky part of town.
