Nathan, Thanks for the input. As I state in the article, Critical Mass has come under fire for some of its tactics. I have so far only taken the one ride with them but the thing that struck me as quite odd was the fact that motorists everywhere seemed to encounter us with a totally positive attitude even when some people were “corking” intersections.

I’m as big a cycling enthusiast as anyone. I ride my bike everywhere (work, school, service endeavors, and for travel means) and rely on it as my primary means of physical fitness, as competitive cycling and triathlons crown my list of passions. The reasoning is faulty here on several counts. It reminds me of the famously flawed logic of Pascal’s Wager. I love your honesty and introspection. I love your humor in telling a true story that really is not funny. Most of all I love the point of the story. Yes, the police are effective quite a lot of the time, and I for one would not have thought of calling the police when i witnessed something back in 1990 on the Gulf Coast. I wish I knew then what I have learned now. I saw medical wasted on the beach and tried calling the EPA. Yes, the Environmental Protection Agency. Unfortunately I have battles here that need to be waged (non-violently), also I am married to California because that is where I am licensed to practice law. If Bush/Cheney decide to negate next years election and stay in power I am definitely out of here..and BC bound I will be!
