Ghana: Presidential candidates quizzed about sanitation on prime time radio

Candidates for the Ghanaian presidential election scheduled for December 2008 answered questions on prime time radio about their sanitation plans if they are elected.

The candidates took turns to answer questions on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show over three days from 23 to 26 September 2008. The media platform dubbed Flag bearers on Environmental Sanitation was by a coalition of water and sanitation NGOs in the country.

Disabled Refugees Face Inaccessible Services and Food Shortages in Ugandan Camps

September 23, 2008, Gulu District, Uganda: Refugees who have been disabled by the war in Northern Uganda are confronting food shortages and inaccessible public services in government-run camps. At the same time they are under growing pressure to return home, even though they lack the resources to resume a normal life.

This warning was issued recently by the Gulu Disabled Persons Union (GDPU), an advocacy group. It comes at a time when the Ugandan government is stepping up efforts to empty the camps, which still house more than half a million internally displaced pers...

Last night I was pleased to see the “Retail Activist” tote bag in the window of my local Housing Works Thrift Shop. I am on the board of directors of the shops, a not for profit agency which provides a variety of services for the homeless /AIDS population in New York City and beyond. We raise money by operating over half a dozen thrift stores in New York.
