than a motorbike and a mission, Clement Kitambala has been spreading
news about environmental issues in remote communities of the
war-ravaged Democratic Republic of Congo.

Amid renewed fighting that has displaced more than 130,000, ongoing

Dear AOKW Luminaries and Friends,

I cannot help but comment on the profound shift of consciousness that has just occurred as a result of this US election. It cannot be described in any other way but this: Awakening. Humanity has just been Awakened to the possibility of a New World Order; one that may now be built upon a foundation of Open Dialogue, Cooperative Collaboration and Equal Fellowship!

However, I feel that the road ahead will be quite a challenging and perilous one. The events that occur in the week ahead may test our collective determination and resolve.<...

disabled by the war in Northern Uganda are confronting food shortages

Many people talk about micro-credit as an approach to
development and they mention how organizations are being creative in
minimizing the operating costs in an effort to provide credit to the
poor. Well, BERDO's creativity lies in the way they incorporate
different services into the community-based rehabilitation (CBR)

been doffing their traditional black robes, hefting picks and shovels,

I agree with jonathan, public transit is better by far. unfortunately, as long as there is a market for privately owned vehicles there will be companies making and selling them and it’s far far better to have those vehicles be electric then gasoline powered, if only because electric engines are far more efficient in their power consumption and because it creates at least the possibility for sustainable energy since electricity can be generated by wind, sun, tides, etc.

Besides a list of these electric cars, what is the total amount of pollution, including their manufacturing, etc, that will truly reduce. Mass transit is actually a better solution. Also more walking, and having stores and work near where you live. But electric cars are cool nonetheless. I drove a Hybrid from Montreal to Toronto and was amazing at how little gas it used.

Of Lomborg’s book the Danish Committee for Scientific

New comment - Documentary film: Who killed the electric car?

This is a truly eye-opening film. It shows how top-down government legislation can enact huge change rapidly (as it was the case when California passed a law that required that a percentage of all new cars sold by companies in that state had to be zero emission vehicles) and how commercial pressure on government can revert good laws. I don’t know of many videos that show a better example of how corporate lobbying can make a legislative body overturn a good law in the books. The stated law was forcing the big car manufacturers to innovate and develop electric powered cars and lea...

How can we avoid this inevitable tipping point where our consumption and waste finally overcomes any possibility of reclamation? In the US we are so obsessed with novelty that the products we buy come in disposable packaging which consumes more natural resources than the product itself! Just in chopsticks alone, Los Angeles destroys whole forests a day! We have so much “stuff” right now that almost all “new” manufacturing could halt for the next hundred years and we would survive. Can anyone conceive of a way to leverage the collective power of the <span class="c...

All it takes to feed the world is an end to greed, a sharing of wealth and a open heart and mind. Doesn’t sound like much does it? It should be a right, that all have enough, that no one should go hungry, or for that matter cold, or any other unnecessary evil. It tears people apart, breaks them down, tears at their souls. To bad that doesn’t happen to the people’s whose fault it is!
