His clear thinking - visionary, yet practical - is exactly what is needed in a world embarking on a global social revolution. Read his books and give them as gifts to everyone you know. Seriously.

Hey.
I was just looking at your resume (sorry, not because I have any work for you, just because I was looking around at your site), and noticed that the dates for your web design diploma aren't formatted the same way as all the other dates (there are spaces in between [year - year], as opposed to [year-year].
Thought you might want to fix that.

The sustainable energy summit on Saturday at UMass-Amherst went splendidly! Just about everyone we talked to was enthusiastic about the project, and feel it is about time something like this happened. Everyone is tired of a society that can't get its priorities straight, and are glad to see an organization dedicated to financially empowering communities.

We did a presentation to a group of about ten people and got some important feedback on the project, mostly positive and some constructive. It's interesting how sometimes those who seem like your greatest foes can be your biggest...

The project has been going on some form or another for six years now and we're prepared to work as long as it takes to get the bank off the ground. We recognize that most of the social problems we have today, poverty, education underfunding, war, etc., ...

The Green Vehicle Exchange is a program founded by Fraser Young whose goal is to convince drivers to scrap their older, polluting cars for newer, more fuel efficient models. They do this by offering participants anywhere from $1,500 to upwards of $4,000 for their old car, usually comptetitive with, if not more than, the car's trade-in value. The difference is that cars exchanged under the GVE program are dismantled, and the parts either recycled or scrapped in an environmentally conscious way, rather ...

it shouldn't be 'costly' for corporations fto dump poison and pollution into the atmosphere, it should be *illegal*. we are well past the point on this planet where we can afford to let capitalists continue to externalize their cleanup costs onto the rest of us by using our skies and our oceans as dumping grounds.

It's time for capitalists to start cleaning up their own messes, and -even better - to avoid making them in the first place.

We should have some sort of national campaign to get as much of your energy as sustainably as possible. all kinds, chemical for our body, electric for appliances....whatever other forms we use for other things.

New comment - Rethos Announces An Exciting New Alliance

This is an excellent point... the anarchist approach to a dysfunctional society is to deconstruct it, from the inside out... but an organization cannot do that if it decides its going to embrace only those methods of deconstruction that are "comfortable" and politely remind people to be "PC" at the same time! It's absurd! So re the "A" for anarchy being a part of the logo for the Alternative Channel: thst does feel like it co-opts the meaning and message of true anarchy... which is a shame.

I agree with you, the project itself and the partnership with rethos is a good thing... but tha...

Thanks, that's a really good point, the words have been so corrupted they've lost their traditional meaning. Freedom means slavery, peace means war. We should be careful to define our terms.

We definitely need to find an economic system that finds the strengths of capitalism and democratic socialism.I believe the common good bank does this.

Politics is part of our daily lives, whether we like it or not, wherever there are decisions to be made and power and authority differentials, politics is there.

The goal is to have everyone educated and empowered, to ensure self-determination...

I know this has nothing to do with Rethos, but it's really annoying that the "Alternative Channel" uses the Anarchy symbol without explaining the anarchist principals behind the site.

Here's what I mean: They say they want to: "deliver information without depending on corporate services." This is a way of many to many communication which fits with anarchist ideals. Of course there are things about it that go completely against these ideals, like the whole idea of a copyright for instance.
Well we agree on that, Paul. Also though, people should take a little while to understand why to switch their money over, and how it will be affect them and their community. Once a few banks work, kinks will be worked out, and the proof of concept will persuade people who would be too skeptical to join.

I really hope it works too, and I have a feeling it will. The common good dollars is definitely an issue that will elicit contention. To start off with you just get a certain amount of common good dollars, the tricky part comes when you pay participating merchants in common good dollars whi...

I really like the idea of the Common Good Bank. However it is very complex and takes a good half an hour to understand. I believe that in order to acquire the necessary support it needs to be explained in a simple format. Also people may be suspicious about trading in their currency for common good dollars. I know I wouldn't feel that easy about it.

This is not to say that I am not fully in support, I just hope it works. I am looking forward to seeing how the first couple of banks work out.

What an amazing shot. Did you take this?

There are so many different ways to interpret this photo. The poverty stricken woman almost looks prepared for war. However, she is holding on to her stuffed animal (innocence, inner child, memories). Meanwhile, the man in the background is deliberately turned away from the woman and faces a blank wall.

Great post!

As always, if you’re interested in volunteering, get in touch. We need people who can:
- graphic design

- web design
- do some mindless data entry (if you’re in the mood for some tedium, but we try to keep it to a minimum!)
- develop website content
- translate (English – French)
- help out at events (hand out surveys, talk up Apathy, take pictures, sell gear) and a plethora of other things.

Are you looking to get involved in the fight against poverty?

Are you someone who’s passionate about development? What to get involved in the fight against poverty? Well, this is a message to help you in this quest!!

I’m sure you’ve encountered multiple messages, similar to this one, that ask you to join the fight against global poverty. But, doesn’t it seem like such a daunting task? In my experience, I’ve always had a hard time getting involved in poverty reduction and equality without addressing the issues that I see locally, everyday , here in Toronto. So, how can all these considerations be reconciled, and translated i...

ONE Campaign's Campus Drive

The ONE Campaign has started a PR drive that focuses around college campuses. It should be lots of fun. It is kind of a contest to see which school can accumulate the most points by engaging in publicity for the ONE Campaign. The school teams win prizes. The ONE Campaign wins more public visibility.

So go ahead. Locate your alma mater (or favorite school) and sign in to help them rack up points and spread an awareness about the ONE Campaign.

Great rant! I really like the line

“I seek internally to beat my own psychic swords to plowshares and my arrows of indignant intolerance and anger into pruning hooks as I am aware that nothing in this world can effectively change until I change the demons from within.”

You should post this at the principiadiscordia.com forums in the Or Kill Me section. Some people over there would really dig this and want to discuss it with you. Grassroots Go!
