The Social Development Centre Nepal has been in effect since 2006. It's a small home for orphans, and half-orphans (single parent invalid or not capable of caring for the child), located in the Kathmandu neighborhood of Khusibu near Naya Bazaar. Here, these children receive nourishment, shelter, education and medical attention.

The sustainable energy summit on Saturday at UMass-Amherst went splendidly! Just about everyone we talked to was enthusiastic about the project, and feel it is about time something like this happened. Everyone is tired of a society that can't get its priorities straight, and are glad to see an organization dedicated to financially empowering communities.

We did a presentation to a group of about ten people and got some important feedback on the project, mostly positive and some constructive. It's interesting how sometimes those who seem like your greatest foes can be your biggest...

Cool. Any product or service that can lower bills, reduce fossil fuel use, and make us more independent is noteworthy. Inspires me to invest in things that make me more energy independent. We should have some sort of national campaign to get as much of your energy as sustainably as possible. all kinds, chemical for our body, electric for appliances....whatever other forms we use for other things.

This is an excellent point... the anarchist approach to a dysfunctional society is to deconstruct it, from the inside out... but an organization cannot do that if it decides its going to embrace only those methods of deconstruction that are "comfortable" and politely remind people to be "PC" at the same time! It's absurd! So re the "A" for anarchy being a part of the logo for the Alternative Channel: thst does feel like it co-opts the meaning and message of true anarchy... which is a shame. Thanks, that's a really good point, the words have been so corrupted they've lost their traditional meaning. Freedom means slavery, peace means war. We should be careful to define our terms. We definitely need to find an economic system that finds the strengths of capitalism and democratic socialism.I believe the common good bank does this. Politics is part of our daily lives, whether we like it or not, wherever there are decisions to be made and power and authority differentials, politics is there. I know this has nothing to do with Rethos, but it's really annoying that the "Alternative Channel" uses the Anarchy symbol without explaining the anarchist principals behind the site. Here's what I mean: They say they want to: "deliver information without depending on corporate services." This is a way of many to many communication which fits with anarchist ideals. Of course there are things about it that go completely against these ideals, like the whole idea of a copyright for instance. Well we agree on that, Paul. Also though, people should take a little while to understand why to switch their money over, and how it will be affect them and their community. I really like the idea of the Common Good Bank. However it is very complex and takes a good half an hour to understand. I believe that in order to acquire the necessary support it needs to be explained in a simple format. Also people may be suspicious about trading in their currency for common good dollars. I know I wouldn't feel that easy about it. This is not to say that I am not fully in support, I just hope it works. I am looking forward to seeing how the first couple of banks work out.

What an amazing shot. Did you take this? There are so many different ways to interpret this photo. The poverty stricken woman almost looks prepared for war. However, she is holding on to her stuffed animal (innocence, inner child, memories). Meanwhile, the man in the background is deliberately turned away from the woman and faces a blank wall.
