Bible Illuminated's The Book New Testament

Forget heavy leather-bound volumes - this New Testament brings an entirely new look to the table.

Even the format of Illuminated World's New Testament is a vast departure from any version of the Bible that readers are familiar with. It doesn't look like a book, but instead looks like a high-end magazine, complete with glossy pages and illustrated with contemporary photographs.

Why These Pictures and Highlighted Passages?

The layout is a departure from tradition, but the text itself is not. The New Testament uses the sta...

No torture!

This post isn't as timely as I would like it to be, but still....

If you're unhappy with the Bush administration's involvement with
torture, why not let your elected representatives know how you feel?
Thanks to the ACLU, it's incredibly easy - just see this email and
website:
----

Subject: Bush's top-down torture policies

On
Friday night, in a national television interview on ABC News, President
Bush directly admitted that the White House was deeply involved in
decisions about the CIA’s use of torture.

Recent reports
indicate that members...

Can Political Correctness Be Incorrect?

Last month, I saw a couple of stories that started me thinking. President Bush awarded Presidential Medals of Freedom to Harper Lee, author of the classic “To Kill a Mockingbird,” and to former NAACP leader Benjamin Hooks, honoring them for their roles in the push for racial equality.

The same week, I read about Fort Walton Beach High School’s production of the stage version of the celebrated novel. The local NAACP chapter was protesting the performance, based one one word, a racial slur that they wanted re...

Falafel = Terrorist

Watch out, Iranian terrorists! The FBI is going to track you down – by checking grocery receipts for spikes in sales of falafel.

Yeah, I know. Iranians don’t even eat falafel.

You can read more here.

Does America Throw Away Its Children?

Many times, America has been willing to stand alone against the world if necessary. Apparently, December 2006 was one of those times. The United Nations called for the abolition of life imprisonment without parole (LWOP) for children and young teenagers. The final vote – 185 to 1. The long dissenter? The United States.

It’s an odd dichotomy. The US was one of the pioneers in the area of juvenile justice. At one time, we recognized that children are not small adults. They don’t think the same, they don’t act the same. But somewhere in the last hu...

Verdict in the "Boot Camp Death" Trial

I’ve spent the morning watching assorted commentators discuss this case as the jury deliberated. If you’re not familiar with what happened, roughly two years ago a 14 year old died on his first day at a Florida boot camp for young offenders. ...read more
