A Grade 12 student, Adam is heavily involved in international development projects, especially in East Africa.
Recently, Adam traveled to Northern Kenya with the Lewa Education Trust, to build a school and teach children at a local school, and teach teachers how to use computers. Following his service trip in Northern Kenya, Adam climbed Mount Kilimanjaro with nine other students.
Adam's passion for international development led him to continue his work in East Africa. This past August, Adam volunteered at the Aga Khan University Hospital (Nairobi). He helped organize a high-profile event for 300 distinguished guests and dignitaries for the launch of the new Faculy of Health Sciences. Adam also set up and managed a makeshift hospital clinic for a 13-000 person event. During his remaining time at the hospital, Adam used his expertise in the field of environmental sustainability to propose and set up a new waste management program at the hospital to separate paper waste, clinical wastes, and landfill waste. This recycling program will begin roll-out in the coming weeks. Other healthcare institutions are expected to implement similar programs based on the layout at AKUH(N).
Adam is currently the Executive Chair of the 25th Annual World Affairs Conference to be held on 11-12 February, 2008 at Upper Canada College in Toronto. The theme for the conference is "Keeping the Promise? The United Nations' Millennium Development Goals." Adam's work in the fields of education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability are portrayed throughout this captivating and informative student-run conference.
Furthermore, Adam has been interviewed by the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Star, the Forest Hill Town Crier, the City of Toronto, CityTV, and CP24. He has also been featured on the Rogers' "Structures" Television Program for his efforts in international development.
